The question, I get asked most, is about how I fit everything in…The answer is easy. Out with my working hours, I have freedom of choice in how I spend my time. This is a privilege and I make sure to spend my time on things that fulfil me, provide development, joy or happiness.

Time is our most valuable asset, as we can’t make more, but yet, we quite often whittle it away on the wrong things — I’ve been there too. However, when I decided to treat my time with respect, I noticed big changes.

Through these monthly round ups’, of the small actions I take, that amount into the success I share with you all on social media, I hope to inspire you to see how these small actions mount up and how you can find your recipe of small actions that can contribute to create your successes.

I know, it’s easy for us to see the social media highlight reels and compare our outputs to that of others but remember, we all have different responsibilities, commitments, and energy levels. I’m very lucky that I’ve been able to design my life in a way that allows me to spend my time how I wish, out with my work.

I’m starting these Determinator Diaries, so that once a month, I can show you how I do spend that free time and share some of the activities that I get up to.

In December, I set a list of 30 goals to guide this process and to inform the direction I would focus my energies into this year. Upon reviewing my progress at the end of January, I am happy with what I have achieved. My goals and achievements for January are as follows:

Continuing professional Development of at least 5 hours each month

· Climate training (Carbon Literacy Course) — 6 hours

· Numeracy Champion Course — 6 hours

· Asta PowerProjects Webinar — 1 hour

· 2x virtual attendance to Friday lunchtime clubhouse rooms.

· Met with one mentee to discuss suitability of working together

Inclusive Event or Activity

· Recorded a number of episodes for the podcast that cover topics highlighting inclusion

Read 1 book each month

· Read The Meno diaries — also interviewed the author for the podcast and this and an accompanying blog will feature in March.

Podcast Goals

· Launched with 5 episodes on 3rd January — Goal complete.

· Release episodes bi-weekly — released weekly episodes to date up to episode 9 released at 31/01/22.

100 hours of STEM Engagement

· January STEM Impact — 25 Hours | 12 Activities | 523 Participants | 6 organisations This has been reached by creating content such as video, spotlight profile and a blog as well as speaking at events and delivering STEM sessions in schools.

Business/Marketing Skills

· SEO Workshop/Instagram Workshop/Linkedin Workshop

Other Activites

· Added activities to my STEM toolkit

· Did a construction engagement session with pupils at secondary school

· Wrote 1 long blog (Girls into STEM)

In true Everyday Determinator fashion, I want to make sure you see that while I am celebrating these achievements, I am also giving myself a kick for the things that didn’t go so well this month. I have done really badly on drinking more water and getting to the swimming pool, but these will be refocused for the next month so that I put more energy into them. Let’s hope I’m not writing the same thing in February.

So that’s it for our January Round Up — What will February bring?

Stay Remarkable Determinators!!
